The Czech president will appoint a new Health Minister on Thursday to replace Roman Prymula, who was fired after being caught violating the measures he himself took against the coronavirus, reports AFP, according to Agerpres. Roman Prymula was photographed last week leaving a restaurant that was supposed to be closed as a result of the rules imposed to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
“President Milos Zeman will appoint Jan Blatny as Health Minister on Thursday,” Zeman spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said in a Twitter post.
Jan Blatny is a pediatric hematologist and deputy director of a hospital in the second largest city in the Czech Republic, Brno. He has no political experience.
The dismissed Minister of Health, Roman Prymula, was caught by a photographer leaving a restaurant in Prague that theoretically should have been closed, according to the anti-COVID restrictions imposed even by the government to which he belongs. Also, he did not wear a mask in the car he was in with the driver.
His behavior has sparked a wave of criticism on social media from the opposition and even from the ruling coalition.
“When our medical personnel are fighting on the front lines to save the lives of our compatriots, such behavior is absolutely unforgivable,” the prime minister said. Andrew Babis.
Roman Prymula, an epidemiologist by profession, was appointed minister in September, at a time when the number of contaminations was beginning to increase rapidly.
