The contract for the metro line 1 Mai-Otopeni Airport was signed. When the project should be completed

On Wednesday the financing contract for the 1Mai-Otopeni Airport metro line was signed. Its value exceeds 6,300 million lei.

„The Magistrala 6 project will ensure the connection of the Bucharest metro network with the Henri Coandă – Otopeni international airport. The 6-meter road will run for 14.2 km and will include 12 stations. The objective of the financing contract is the granting of non-reimbursable financing by MA POIM for the execution of the project, in accordance with the applicable European and national legislation ”, broadcast, on Wednesday, Metrorex, in a statement taken by news.ro.

Non-reimbursable financing is 2,360,297,239.70 lei, being granted from the Cohesion Fund through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program, a value equivalent to 85% of the approved total eligible value.

The total value of the Financing Contract is 6,333,594,004.58 lei, of which the total eligible value is 2,776,820,282, according to the cited source.

According to the Financing Contract, also signed by the Ministry of Transport, the execution period of the Magistrala 6 – 1Mai – Otopeni project ends on 11/15/2026.

The construction of the new highway aims, according to Metrorex, and “Improve passenger comfort and traffic efficiency by ensuring a transportation system that streamlines travel time in the served corridor.”

It is also expected to increase the efficiency of transport in terms of commercial speed, through the saving of time that the new underground transport will provide; reduction of pollution (exhaust gases, noise, vibrations) by alleviating public and private land transport with important implications in improving the quality of life in terms of environmental conditions; increasing the attractiveness of underground transport, compared to road transport, consequently reducing the number of accidents, reducing road degradation, achieving fuel and maintenance savings, reducing travel time, etc.
