Jérôme Bonduelle, the general manager of French canned vegetable producer Bonduelle, was hit and killed by a car, reports BFMTV. The incident took place on Saturday night in the city of Lille. Jerome Bonduelle was riding a bike around town with his wife and friends when he was hit by a car. After the collision, the driver fled the scene.

Despite the efforts of rescuers and doctors who arrived at the scene, Bonduelle, 51, died from his injuries.

Later on Saturday morning, the driver behind the wheel of the car was caught by police. He allegedly had several cases of reckless driving.

Bonduelle products are widely represented not only in France, where they are sold under the Cassegrain brand, but also in many European countries, Russia, the United States, Canada and other countries.

Jerome served on the Bonduelle board of directors, leading the company’s prospective and development business. He joined the family business in 2003, after spending a decade developing a management career in the automotive and consulting industries. He is also the son of Bruno Bonduelle, a prominent industrialist from Lille and former director of the vegetable giant.

The Bonduelle Group employs 14,500 people worldwide, including 4,600 in France. The history of the company begins in 1853, when Louis Bonduelle-Dalle co-founded a distillery company.
