The Ministry of Transport and Metrorex have signed a financing contract for the construction of a new surface metro station, between the current Berceni station and the Ring Road, Agerpres reports.
The project will be completed in 4 years and 7 months, and the contract value amounts to almost 215 million lei, of which 180 million lei represents non-reimbursable European funds.
The program aims to expand the current metro network by building a new metro station according to European standards and to improve the existing infrastructure by expanding the existing line by 1.6 km, which will increase the number of passengers transported by metro and it will also reduce the time spent in traffic for city traffic as a result of the execution of the project.
According to a statement from the corresponding ministry, this project is in line with the development strategy of the metro network and has been the subject of several analyzes, both at the level of the Ministry of Transport and in the General Council of the Capital City Council of Ilfov and the City Council of Sector 4. These analyzes materialized in 2019, when the protocol for the investment objective was signed, concluded between the ministry (as administrator), Metrorex (the transferor of the building related to the investment objective) and the City Council of Sector 4, with the opinion of the General Council of the City Council of the Capital.
The procedures for the execution and monitoring of the contract will be executed by the Sector 4 City Council and Metrorex will provide technical assistance.
Currently, the only metro station built on the surface of the Metrorex network is Berceni (former IMGB).
