An avalanche of disease is spreading over Romania at high speed and many towns, including Bucharest, are on the verge of quarantine as a result.
Therefore, we can expect drastic measures to be imposed before the end of the week. Due to the large number of infections, these areas are close to the quarantine threshold. However, authorities say that at least the city of Bucharest cannot be completely isolated.
So new restrictions are being prepared. Pilgrimages to St. Dumitru were prohibited and, as President Iohannis recommended, wearing a mask could be mandatory everywhere.
The capital near quarantine
In Bucharest, but also in 14 counties, the virus is spreading rapidly.
The capital reached a 14-day accumulated contagion coefficient of 2.66 per thousand inhabitants. Alba follows with 2.35 and Vâlcea with 2.32.
Under these conditions, the authorities impose new restrictions. The San Dumitru pilgrimage, which should have been organized at the end of the month, in Bucharest, was canceled.
Ludovic Orban, Prime Minister of Romania: “We know how it works. In the parishes, trips are organized by bus, by minibus, in conditions that we cannot control. The risk of spread exists, as long as there are trips that last hours, it is very difficult to ensure the conditions of physical distance and protection of health, as certain things that happen, that can endanger the lives of believers. // I am convinced that even in the Orthodox Church there is understanding of this decision of ours “
But the BOR representatives are not that understanding.
In an official statement, a spokesman for the Patriarchate said the allegations about the behavior of the faithful were “negative exercises of imagination at the highest level” and that the authorities were arrogant and did not speak to the Church before making the decision. Thus, transmits the Romanian Patriarchate, “religious freedom is suspended, even temporarily.”
Religious actions of Saint Andrew, prohibited in Galați
And the religious actions of Saint Andrew, traditionally organized in Galaţi, were prohibited.
Elena Bujor, spokesperson for Galati Prefecture: “Occasional transportation and the addition of regular walks to the towns where these religious processions take place is also prohibited.”
The authorities’ decision comes after the sanctification of an old-style Orthodox church on Sunday led to the blocking of a street in Galaţi. More than 300 believers crowded the altar, necessitating the intervention of the police and the gendarmerie.
In Bucharest, the prime minister questions the organization of weddings, baptisms and other parties.
Ludovic Orban, Prime Minister of Romania: “I will propose the cessation of private events. It is clear that it is one of the main sources of disease. Or the return to the old system of 20 people. Weddings of 350, 500 people have been seen, without any mask, which blatantly violates the rules”. .
Furthermore, after President Klaus Iohannis recommended wearing a mask, even in open spaces, the government is considering introducing this obligation.
Tataru: Bucharest cannot be isolated
All these measures take place in the context in which the authorities of the Capital and two provinces are very close to imposing the zonal quarantine. At the moment, the Health Minister speaks of a specific quarantine, only in outbreaks.
Nelu Tătaru: “At the moment we cannot talk about Bucharest without Ilfov. They are so intertwined that you have to judge them in general. The sectors that we evaluate are like statistics and epidemiological surveys. At the moment we have certain outbreaks that are already isolated. in the institutions, then we already have isolation and quarantine of those at home in the investigation. We do not quarantine a sector, we do not quarantine our Capital ”.[msuntcaşistatisticăşicăşiancheteepidemiologiceÎnmomentulîncareavemanumitefocarecaredejasuntizolateîninstituţiiatunciavemdejaîncadrulancheteioizolareşiocarantinareacelorcaresuntacasăNucarantin[munsectornucarantin[mCapitala”[msuntcaşistatisticăşicăşiancheteepidemiologiceÎnmomentulîncareavemanumitefocarecaredejasuntizolateîninstituţiiatunciavemdejaîncadrulancheteioizolareşiocarantinareacelorcaresuntacasăNucarantin[munsectornucarantin[mCapitala”
Specifically, the Minister of Health says that Bucharest cannot be isolated. Furthermore, it would be extremely difficult to close even one sector. However, restrictions may be placed on certain activities. For example, all schools could go online and then gyms and shopping malls could be closed. It is even possible to limit travel, so that people can go from one sector to another only in the interest of the service or the doctor ”
Ludovic Orban, Prime Minister of Romania: “Our goal is not to get here.”
The total number of SARS VOC 2 infections is close to 160,000.
