More than 12 million COVID-19 cases, including nearly 300,000 deaths, have been officially registered in Europe, according to an AFP report based on data provided by health authorities on Friday, writes Agerpres.

The 52 countries of the region are the most affected area in the world in number of cases, ahead of Latin America and the Caribbean (11.5 million cases) and Asia (10.9 million).

Almost half of the 12 million cases of Covid-19, registered in four European countries

Almost half of the 12 million cases were registered in just four countries: Russia (1,733,440), France (1,601,367), Spain (1,306,316) and the United Kingdom (1,123,197).

Europe has once again become the epicenter of the pandemic in recent weeks, after the March-April period, the cited source also writes. Since the beginning of October, Europe has been the region with the most new daily cases of COVID-19 in the world. Last week, more than 280,000 new cases were recorded daily, more than half of all cases worldwide (an average of 525,000 per day).

The pandemic continues to accelerate: the number of cases detected in the last seven days in Europe is 17% higher than that registered the previous week.

France (45,514 daily cases on average, + 12% compared to the previous week), Italy (30,715, + 32%), United Kingdom (22,551, + 2%), Poland (21,847, + 36%) and Spain (20,890, + 9%) are the countries in the region with the most new cases in the last seven days.
