The coronavirus is hitting EU states hard as officials speak of a second wave of COVID-19.
In the UK, there could be up to 50,000 new cases of COVID-19 by mid-October. According to British officials, since the outbreak of cases in the UK, the number of new infections has doubled every 7.7 days. The reported number of 50,000 new cases / day, in mid-October, could become a reality if restrictive measures are not taken.
Scientist Patrick Vallance, a scientific consultant in the UK, said the figure could lead to an additional 200 deaths a day a month later, according to the BBC.
A major emergency meeting, prepared at Prime Minister level, will take place in the UK on Tuesday at which further decisions are expected to be taken.
On Sunday, 3,899 new cases of COVID-19 infection and 18 deaths from coronavirus were reported.
“Right now, we think the epidemic is doubling in about 7 days,” Patrick Vallance said, adding that “Yes, and it’s a big yes, but if it continues uninterrupted and grows, doubling every 7 days … if it continues, we will reach about 50,000 cases per day somewhere in mid-October.”.
“It is expected that 50,000 daily cases will lead, a month later, that is, in mid-November, to 200 more deaths a day,” explained the doctor. “The challenge, therefore, is to make sure that doubling of cases does not occur every 7 days.” the specialist continued.
