In the middle of the holidays for Romanians, Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu harshly criticized the authorities’ decision to ban the pilgrimage to Santa Parascheva. The president of ALDE says that the bans from Iasi to St. Pious represent a serious violation of the religious freedom of Romanians.

“Today should have been the pilgrimage of Iasi on the occasion of the Holy Pia Parascheva. The Orban government decided, overnight, that this year the pilgrimage is not carried out. In my opinion, it is a serious violation of freedom Romanian religion. It has become common for Iohannis and Orban to intervene in the lives of the faithful, especially the Orthodox. “ Tariceanu wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

Tariceanu believes that the pilgrimage should take place in Iasi and that the measure applied by the Government should have been announced long before the date of the holiday. In addition, the politician gives the example of the Muslim religious procession in Mecca, where thousands of pilgrims travel kilometers each year to attend the event.

“I cannot help but compare the way the NLP government makes such decisions and the way other governments announce to their believers the cancellation of such important events. Take, for example, the case of the largest Muslim pilgrimage, that of La Mecca. Millions of Muslims Cross Thousands Do you think the Saudi government told them over and over again that the pilgrimage was over? No, they were told months in advance, so that people will know. “The case of the Hindu pilgrimage to banks of the Ganges. That means respect for people, for their faith. That means caring more about them than about their votes. Easter holidays will be funerals! In short, Iohannis and Orban tell us: religious pilgrimages are prohibited, but pilgrimages with vow are allowed!Tariceanu added.

The ALDE leader also had a message for the faithful of Iași, the only ones who were able to access this year’s procession from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iași, under certain conditions.

“It is the year that I am not in Iasi with the Orthodox believers, but that does not mean that I do not think about them. May Holy Pía Parascheva protect us and guide us in these times”, Also wrote Tariceanu.
