Flavio Cotti, former president of Switzerland, died infected with Covid-19 at the age of 81. In addition to the position of president, he also held important positions in the state, such as minister of Foreign Affairs or the Interior.

“It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Flavio Cotti,” the current head of diplomacy in Bern, Ignazio Cassis, wrote on Twitter.

According to the international press, this information appeared for the first time in the Italian newspaper Ticino. According to him, Flavio Cotti, the former president of Switzerland, would have died on Wednesday afternoon. He was hospitalized in Locarno and the medical staff assures that the death occurred as a result of several “complications caused by the coronavirus.”

Flavio Cotti, a lawyer by training, was a member of the Ticino Christian Democratic Party, before being promoted into politics and spending 12 years in the federal government in Bern, between 1987 and 1999.

Between 1991 and 1998, he even served as president of the Swiss Confederation on two occasions. Switzerland has an annual rotating presidency system among members of the federal government, writes Agerpres.

Between 15.12.2020 (10:00) – 16.12.2020 (10:00), 164 deaths (112 men and 52 women) were reported, of some patients infected by the new coronavirus, hospitalized in Alba, Arad, Argeș, Bacău , Bistrița-Năsăud, Botoșani, Brăila, Brașov, Buzău, Călărași, Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Covasna, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Ialomița, Iași, Maramureaș, Telecea, Suceava, Timșiui Sibcea, Mehedinț, Timibiui Sibiu , Vrancea, Ilfov and Bucharest.

Of these, 1 death was recorded in the age category of 20 to 29 years, 1 death in the age category of 30 to 39 years, 6 deaths in the age category of 40 to 49 years, 12 deaths in the category of age 50 to 59 years, 38 deaths in the age group 60 to 69 years, 60 deaths in the age group 70 to 79 years, and 46 deaths in the age group over 80 years.
