A man armed with a knife killed three people and wounded several more in the Notre-Dame basilica in the French city of Nice.
UPDATE 12:00 – The third victim has been confirmed dead. According to Le Figaro, it is about a woman who was stabbed, but managed to escape from the church and hide in a nearby cafe, where she died.
The first two victims were found inside the church of Notre Dame.
UPDATE 11:50 – President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will travel to the scene of the incident.
The initial news
Authorities managed to arrest the attacker and announced that the idea of a terrorist attack is currently not ruled out, according to Le Figaro.
According to a police source, one person died after his neck was cut. The information has not yet been officially confirmed.

The attacker was taken to hospital after being shot.
The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, visited the scene of the attack.
“I am at the scene with the police, who arrested the author of the attack. I confirm that all the evidence suggests a terrorist attack on the Notre-Dame Basilica.” the mayor wrote on Twitter.

“After a telephone conversation with Christian Estrosi, I decided to organize a crisis meeting at the Ministry of the Interior”, said Gerald Darmanin, France’s interior minister.
The Notre Dame Basilica is located in the center of Nice.
