Spain will re-enter a state of emergency. The government headed by Pedro Sánchez has decided to return to this exceptional measure, due to the explosive growth of coronavirus cases. According to the Madrid press, the state of emergency could last until April 2021.

The decision was made at an extraordinary government meeting called by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, after intensive consultations with the leaders of the autonomous communities of Spain.

In fact, even the autonomous communities have requested new restrictions to curb the epidemic.

According to the government’s decision, the state of emergency will be established first for 15 days, but the Madrid government wants to request the approval of Parliament for a six-month extension, until April 2021.

This is because the first time that Spain was in a state of emergency it was necessary to extend it every two weeks, which made things very complicated. Therefore, the Spanish government wants to stop hitting this problem.

Through the decisions made at this government meeting, the autonomous communities acquire more power to impose harsh restrictions.

The measure is valid for the entire territory of Spain and implies, for example, traffic restrictions at night, between 23:00 and 6:00, it is forbidden to travel between the autonomous communities, except for essential reasons – health, family , job .

Also, gatherings, public gatherings are restricted, thus leading to the uncontrolled spread of the coronavirus.

Spain has the highest number of COVID-19 infections in Western Europe. The total number of cases rose to 1,046,132 on Friday, while the death toll approached 38,000.
