Simona Halep qualified for round 2 at Roland Garros, on her birthday

Simona Halep qualified, on Sunday, in round 2 of Roland Garros, after beating Sara Sorribes Tormo (70 WTA), score 6-4, 6-0. The Romanian tennis player gave a show of force on the same day that she turned 29.

Halep, the 2018 champion and this year’s top favorite, won after one hour and 22 minutes.

The Romanian started stronger and was led 3-1 and 4-2 in the first set, until she found the rhythm of the game. Halep then dominated the game and managed four consecutive games, winning the first act 6-4. In the second set, Simona Halep controlled the game from one end to the other and won 6-0, writes Agerpres.

Halep managed an ace in this match, and Sorribes Tormo (23 years old, 70 WTA) committed two double errors. Simona Halep had 23 direct winning balls and 23 unforced errors, while the Iberian collected 10 winners and 16 unprovoked errors.

Halep got a check for 84,000 euros and 70 WTA points. In the second round, Halep will face the winner between the Romanian Irina Begu and the Swiss Jil Teichmann, a match that will also be played on Sunday. Simona stopped in the quarterfinals at last year’s edition of the Paris tournament.
