The Oval Office of the White House was the scene of an extremely tense meeting on Friday in which Donald Trump’s advisers and family members yelled and yelled at each other, after at some point it was suggested to the sitting US president that he install martial law and force the military to simply restart the electoral process, reports the New York Times.
The meeting, called by Donald Trump, was attended by controversial lawyer Sidney Powell and his client Michael Flynn, a former White House security adviser suspected of pro-Russian sympathies and recently pardoned by Trump.
The rally turned into a shouting match after Donald Trump’s advisers rejected outrageous proposals by Powell and Flynn to alter the outcome of the US presidential election in an attempt to reconfirm Trump as president.
At one point, Donald Trump asked Michael Flynn about the possibility of martial law and the use of the military to “repeat” the election, ideas that Flynn had featured on a Newsmax news program.
Another idea from Powell and Flynn was the issuance of an order by Trump to allow government officials to inspect the ballots.
One of Powell’s conspiracy theories is that there was a conspiracy by the Venezuelan government to manipulate the ballot papers used in the elections. Trump also considered the possibility of Sidney Powell being appointed special adviser to investigate allegations of voter fraud.
The White House meeting turned into a very “ugly” fight
All these proposals were strongly rejected by the presidential advisers present at the meeting, who demonstrated that all the allegations of fraud could not be proven in court. The most vehement were Councilman Pat A. Cipollone and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.
According to CNN, the meeting degenerated into an “ugly” fight.
“It was a very heated debate, nobody wanted to give up their point of view and they were very fierce,” according to sources quoted by CNN.
Cipollone said Trump does not have constitutional authority to take any of the proposed measures, according to sources who attended the meeting.
Sidney Powell has accused Trump’s team of being “cowards,” sources quoted by the New York Times said.
