The first transsexual was named Senator from Delaware today. It is the highest position ever held by a member of the LGBT community.

Sarah McBride is 30 years old and a member of the Democratic Party. From an early age she had a predilection for politics, but gender identity problems prevented her from dreaming of such a career.

And yet, at the age of 17, Sarah became the leader of the Young Democrats party, and that same year her transition began.

At age 22, she won an internship in the White House and has now been appointed a senator in Delaware, a state known for its strong lean toward democracy.

In a Twitter post, Sarah urged all members of the LGBT community: “I hope tonight will show a child from the LBGBT community that our democracy is big enough for them too.”
