The number of deaths recorded among people infected by coronavirus has reached an unprecedented level in Romania in the last 24 hours, the second day in a row that it has jumped to the threshold of 100 deaths.

In the last 24 hours, 107 deaths (60 men and 47 women) were reported, of some patients infected by the new coronavirus, hospitalized in Alba, Arad, Bacău, Bistrița-Năsăud, Botoșani, Brașov, Călărași, Caraș- Severin, Constanța, Covasna, Dolj, Galați, Gorj, Harghita, Hunedoara, Iași, Maramureș, Mureș, Olt, Prahova, Sălaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Timiș, Vaslui and Bucharest.

Another 7 deaths were recorded in the category 40-49 years, 17 deaths, in the age category 50-59 years, 16 deaths, in the age category 60-69 years, 38 deaths, in the age category 70-79 years and 26 deaths, in the category of over 80 years.

100 of the deaths registered are from some patients who presented comorbidities, one deceased patient did not present comorbidities and for 6 deceased patients, no comorbidities have been reported to date.

To date, 6,681 people diagnosed with COVID-19 infection have died.

5,343 new cases of infection

The number of new cases of infection has also reached an unprecedented level.

In the last 24 hours, 5,343 new cases were confirmed, after performing 37,283 tests

Apart from newly confirmed cases, after retesting patients who were already positive, 777 people were reconfirmed.

To date, on October 28, in Romania, 222,559 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus have been confirmed.

159,855 patients were declared cured.

The highest infection rates (coefficient of accumulated infections at 14 days, reported per 1000 inhabitants) are recorded in: Cluj – 4.09, Bucharest – 3.81, Alba – 3.72, Sălaj – 3.43, Timiș – 3.39 and Harghita – 3.22.

In health units, the total number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 is 10,934.

In Romanian territory, 27,280 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated in their homes and 9,931 people are in institutionalized isolation.

Additionally, 50,565 people are in home quarantine and 52 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
