Romania has issued an alert for non-compliant masks on the market, which carry the CE mark, but are not certified, announced on Friday morning Paul Anghel, general manager of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC).
“Alert issued by Romania – RAPEX: The product bears the CE mark, but it is not certified as protective equipment by a competent body. Therefore, it is possible that the product does not meet the health and safety requirements and therefore Therefore, it is not adequately protected if it is not combined with additional measures. The product does not comply with the Regulation on personal protective equipment and the relevant European standard EN 149 “, said Anghel, head of the General Directorate of Market Control and Surveillance and European Harmonization ANPC, on Facebook.
According to Agerpres, ANPC recently withdrew from the marketing of more than 31 million protective masks, after controls carried out at the national level in the market for these products.
The president of the institution, Eduardt Cozminschi, affirmed on November 5, at a press conference, that those more than 31 million masks were withdrawn from sale until the deficiencies were corrected, and another 90,000 masks were permanently withdrawn as a result of deficiencies. he found.
According to him, one of the deviations found in the marketing of masks was the lack of marking “EC” – certificate of conformity approved by the European Union.
“Among the deviations that I found, they are related to partial or total information, I found that the CE marking was not applied, so the product does not comply with European standards, it was not certified by a recognized authority at European level, not accompanied by certificates of conformity, they have no instructions for use, no signs of tampering or storage. We also found many deviations from incorrect business practices, so that by certain names the consumer was misled when buying that product into the idea These masks (pointing to a package of retired masks, no) they do not have a certificate of conformity that has been approved by the European Union. They may be good, nothing to say, but at the moment they do not have such a certificate, so the CE, they cannot be sold in Romania ”, the president of ANPC mentioned then.
The RAPEX system is a system for the rapid exchange of information on dangerous products between the European Commission and the Member States of the European Union.
