Octavian Jurma, a doctor and researcher, believes that in the first week of December Romania will register a total of 500,000 cases of COVID-19 if the plateau of 10,000 daily infections is maintained until then.
The number of cases doubled in a month
The scientist points out that in this situation the total number of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of November will double in just 30 days.
“At the end of October, we reached a total of 240,000 cases since the pandemic began and in a month we doubled it. We will reach 500,000 cases in the first week of December, whatever we do. The question is what to do not to enter the next doubling period, which will obviously be 500,000 to a million and not arrive somehow, ”said Octavian Jurma, according to Gândul.
“If we had entered the confinement, we would have reached less than 2,000 cases today”
He also gave the example of other European countries that preferred to impose a lockdown to reduce the number of daily SARS-CoV-2 infections.
“If we had gone into lockdown, we would have reached less than 2000 cases today and we would have reached less than 1000 cases on vacation. This is now a beautiful dream that we can no longer achieve. I did not even quarantine France and the countries of the Second group: It was a group that waited to see what happened to the first countries and decided to enter the confinement as well.
France is the most spectacular example, which has dropped from the enormous number of cases they had, more than 50,000, now they have dropped below 30,000 to 20,000 cases in a very short time. They combined a soft confinement with a more aggressive confinement ”, said the doctor (photo).
