In today’s parliamentary elections, December 6, 2020, 465 parliamentarians will be elected, of which 136 senators and 329 deputies, with their terms for the next four years.
The number of candidates in the 2020 parliamentary elections has risen from 6,476 in 2016 to 7,136 this year. The majority of the candidates, 4,659 respectively, are running for the Chamber of Deputies, while 2,477 are running for the Senate.
Likewise, 42 independent candidates were registered for the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. According to official data, a deputy represents 70,000 inhabitants, while a senator represents 160,000 inhabitants.
According to the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), the total number of citizens with the right to vote registered in the Electoral Register as of October 31 is 18,981,242, 2,012 less than the latest information, made at the end of September.
Abroad, a total of 39,238 Romanians from the diaspora submitted applications for registration by vote in parliamentary elections. Most of the requests came from Romanians in Great Britain – 9,224, Germany – 5,772, Italy – 3,378, Spain – 3,338, France – 2,769. More than 1,000 were deposited by Romanians from Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, the United States and Ireland. At the same time, 3,939 Romanians from abroad registered to vote for MPs in an electoral college.
Results of the 2020 ballot box parliamentary elections. Rules in polling stations
– Voter access to the voting table will be done in stages to avoid crowds inside. Voters must wear a protective mask to cover their nose and mouth and disinfect their hands when entering and leaving the voting station;
– The distance of at least 1 meter can be ensured by marking it between the people waiting in the courtyard or in front of the voting station. It is recommended that voters wear a protective mask in the yard or in front of the voting table, to cover their nose and mouth;
– At the entrance to the polling station, a filter provided by the technical staff of the polling stations of the designated polling stations will be organized, equipped with a thermometer, sanitary protection materials and a disinfectant bottle;
– In the event of crowds forming at the entrance to polling stations, security personnel will ensure a distance of at least 1 meter between people; in this situation, it is mandatory to wear a protective mask to cover the nose and mouth;
– Voters will be subjected to an observation triage and a thermometer with a non-contact thermometer will be applied to them;
– if there is no temperature above 37.3 șiC and / or obvious respiratory symptoms (for example, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath), the voter will disinfect his hands, enter the voting station, keeping a distance of at least 1 meter to other people and avoiding touching surfaces as much as possible;
– The technical staff of the electoral offices of the designated polling stations will ensure that voters respect the physical distance, wear the mask correctly and do not deviate from the indicated route to the polling station. If a voter does not have a protective mask, they will be provided with a protective mask, which they will wear during their presence at the voting station and at the voting station;
– After the expression of the vote, the voters will not stop inside the voting table or at the voting table and will immediately leave the voting table following the indicated routes.
