The reason for the meeting was not made public, but it could be a possible interest of the Polish company in Romanian investment projects in the energy field.
PKN Orlen intends to merge with the Polish National Gas Company, PGNiG, with the approval of the European Commission in the summer. The PGNiG company, together with OMV Petrom and Romgaz, reportedly expressed interest in Exxon’s participation in the Black Sea.
PKN Orlen is in the middle of an acquisition process, with the intention of creating a strong global energy group. In fact, this year it took over the electricity distributor Energa, with the intention of buying and acquiring the Lotos company.
