Răzvan Lucescu on the sensations of the title with Al Hilal and the plans for next season

Lucescu became a trophy collector. The cup and the championship with PAOK in Greece, after which he moved to Saudi Arabia and was proclaimed champion with Al Hilal, after winning the Asian Champions League. Răzvan and his team won the title with two stages before the end of the season in Arabia. The decisive victory came on Saturday, 4-1 with Al Hazem, a game in which the 35-year-old Frenchman Gomis scored three goals.

Răzvan Lucescu is the champion in Saudi Arabia

How did Răzvan spend the day after winning the championship? Sleeping most of the time.

– Mr. Lucescu, did you party late?
– No, my wife came, she arrived around three in the morning and I had to go to the airport. To celebrate, I didn’t celebrate much. It’s not even used here, it’s not like in Europe. I spoke to the staff and that’s it. You know what else? I’m not even old enough to celebrate in a spectacular way, as if I now feel victories differently.

– In what other way?
– Instead of the joy of the past, now I feel a relief, like floating. This is how I felt after the hits with PAOK. When I wake up in the morning after winning a trophy, I have a state of utter relaxation and confidence that makes it seem easy to solve all my problems.

Răzvan Lucescu: “Stay here one hundred percent!”

“Like you got rid of a load?”
– There was a lot of pressure here. If we had not won the title, the world would have perceived that victory in the Champions in a different way, it would have valued it, perhaps, less. When a team competes in two major competitions, they are forced to share their energy in some way. We focus on the Champions League, but we try not to neglect the championship, not to suffer a lot in the internal league. Al-Nassr had overtaken us in qualifying because we had gathered stages to recover. After playing the delays we had eight points over our opponents. Now, two stages before the end, we have a six point lead.

– How do you maintain the motivation of footballers, like Gomis and Giovinco, people who have raised money, races? Do you still want to train?
– Oh oh! You know how I am Class footballers have ambition, competence in their DNA. They just need to see that there is a discipline, an organization of the game designed to ensure success. This is how they get started, drawn into this competition. If the environment is not good around them, if there is no discipline in the team and in the club, these great players feel the same and then they would not get involved in the same way.

“Is it clear that it will continue in Al Hilal?”
– Yes Yes of course.

– Why? What else could you get after the title and after the Champions League?
“It doesn’t matter, I don’t think so!” The last matches of this season of the Champions League follow, then a new championship will begin. The Champions League will be played the same as in Europe, with all the games in Qatar. The last four games of the group stage remain to be played, then the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. I stay here and focus on what’s next for the club.

“I miss kittens and bunnies”

– Will there be transfers?
– A foreigner, Eduardo, left, ended his contract after five years at Al Hilal and signed for Al Ahli, a club that offered him a contract with a longer duration than Hilal proposed. We will have to replace it.

– When are you coming back to Romania?
– I don’t even know … It’s a bit difficult to go back, although I would like to. Saudi Arabia has closed borders, it can only be entered with certain special approvals. And if I go to Bucharest, I risk having a hard time coming back. And I would have to quarantine for a week upon my return anyway. That is the situation now. Maybe on the way things will change and it will be easier for me to go to Romania.

– Did you miss something during the period when the competitions stopped, the world was closed?
– I stayed here, I did not go to Bucharest, and to make a sacrifice for which I thought I would be rewarded at some point. And the club and the players saw that I was staying in Saudi Arabia and that I was fully involved. And when I went out for a walk, I would put my headphones on and repeat that I had to be a champion! You asked me what I was missing …

– Gives…
“I missed the scenery at home.” Green, vegetation … And it licked my house with my pets, kittens and bunnies.

– I read a statement given immediately after the game on Saturday, “I will finally be able to sleep soundly!” Is this job that bad?
– Poor me! Poor me!

“Rădoi is young, he has information and he is passionate about football. And he is a calm man in the locker room. I know what the coach position means and I realize that Mirel also needs luck, a favorable context”

“After the first draw here, it looked like a disaster, although I had seven points after three stages, I was in first place. It’s a lot of pressure. People wanted more in the Champions League, which Al Hilal hadn’t won in a long time, but also the title. They told me that the club “never” hit this “double”
