There is a danger that treatment in Intensive Care Units will no longer be possible, and this will generate a significant number of deaths, says Dr. Alexandru Rafila in the context of the increase in new cases of COVID-19. He warned that in December it could reach 25,000 cases a day.

“In the last week we have reached values that exceeded everyone’s expectations. We probably have numbers at least as high, and this has an extraordinarily serious impact because it will affect the healthcare system in 7-10-15 days. There is a danger that treatment in the Intensive Care Units will no longer be possible, and this will generate a significant number of deaths ”, says Alexandru Rafila.

He says that the operation of the public health system, which has to attend to almost 10,000 cases a day, “leaves much to be desired.”

“There is practically no coordination of public health directorates, which can identify all infected people, be able to carry out epidemiological investigations and be able to identify and test the contacts of these people. If we do not succeed, the infection will continue to circulate in the community, “said the Romanian representative at WHO.

“There will be no more places in hospitals. Minor cases will become serious cases if left untreated, severe cases will become critical cases. Morality will explode, it will double, it will triple,” Rafila said.
