Saint Spiridon was born around the year 270 in Cyprus, of simple parents, who give a shepherd to the sheep. After the death of his wife, he chooses the ascetic life, distributing a small fortune to the poor.
For his holy life, God blesses him with miracles. Saint Spiridon cures serious diseases, removes evil spirits from people with prayer. It brings rain in times of drought and stops rains that were no longer contained.
Its name comes from the Greek “spiris” which means “straw braid”, because, to protect itself from the sun when it takes care of the sheep, it carries a kind of basket on its head.
The feast of Saint Spiridon, Saint Hierarch Spiridon, the miracle worker is celebrated on December 12. Today we hear people say that from St. Spiridon “the night grows shorter and the day lengthens,” writes realitatea.net.

“Let us give sincere confessions to the defender of the faith. All of us who through his wise teachings have enlightened with faith and let him sing. Rejoice, Holy Hierarch Spiridon, great miracle worker! The worthy pastor of the Church, Holy Hierarch Spiridon, although we have neither the merit nor the ability to pray to you in the right words, yet we come to you saints, and confessing our many sins, we humbly beg you.
Extend your right hand, with which you have performed so many miracles in your life, and bless us all who come to you with faith! Hope of those who have lost hope, consolation of the afflicted, please be an intercessor for our souls burdened by many temptations and, with your usual goodness and love for people, pray to the Builder of all to give us the healing various diseases of the soul.
Holy Spiridon, pray for us!
Give us the unworthy the right to participate in the spiritual and bodily goodness promised to true believers through your intercession. Give us, my saint, your help with which, by overcoming the poisonous thoughts that constantly fight with us, we can acquire those that are useful for this life and, especially, for the future.
