Negotiations between the leaders of PNL, USR-PLUS and UDMR stalled on Sunday morning, shortly after the talks resumed.
The three parties could not agree on the division of functions of prime minister, president of the Chamber of Deputies and president of the Senate.
The leaders of the three parties agreed to meet on Tuesday, after consultations in Cotroceni, which are scheduled for Monday. According to sources close to the negotiations, each party will go to dialogue with Klaus Iohannis with their own proposal for prime minister, Florin Cîţu of the PNL and Dacian Cioloş, supported by USR-PLUS.
The three parties left Vila Lac 1 with the sole agreement of not accepting the political path, so as not to complete their majority.
In a joint statement, the three political parties announced on Saturday that the negotiating teams of the PNL, USR-PLUS and UDMR had a first round of talks for the constitution of the new parliamentary majority.
“It was agreed to structure the negotiation at three levels, the political one, the one related to the government program and the one of the functioning of the parliamentary majority.
During the political negotiations, each party expressed its point of view on the organization and functioning of the coalition.
Regarding the guiding program, its structure and the way in which the programs of the three political formations are harmonized were established, advancing in a series of chapters.
At the same time, the coordinates of common activity at the parliamentary level that support the functioning of the majority were agreed.
The leaders of the three parties affirmed their willingness to offer together a stable governance formula for Romania, which would ensure the best solutions to overcome the crisis and achieve the reforms that Romania needs, ”the statement, signed by Ludovic Orban, shows. Dan Barna, President of PNL, Co-President of USR-PLUS, Dacian Cioloş, Co-President of USR-PLUS and Kelemen Hunor, President of UDMR.
Sources in the conversations said that for the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies, the PNL requested a direct vote, without advance negotiations for the position. Ludovic Orban is convinced that he will get more votes than Dan Barna. USR rejected the proposal.
