A nurse at the San Paolo Hospital in Civitavecchia, a city about 50 km northwest of Rome in the Lazio region, and her partner are suspected of having performed false tests on dozens of people.

Investigations are ongoing, as there is a risk that among the dozens of people who underwent the test there are real patients, writes Il Messaggero, taken over by Mediafax.

The woman stole the orthopedic tests from the hospital where she worked, and her partner became a doctor and did the tests at home, for a fee, then falsified the results. Researchers are checking whether any of the people “tested” by the couple are infected with the new coronavirus and, without knowing that they are sick, have spread the virus.

The scam allegedly started in April and was discovered after an employee of a cleaning company was notified. The woman and her colleagues had been examined by the fake doctor, called by the owner of the company. When the woman received the negative result, “signed” by the Spallanzani Hospital, the report indicated that, however, “positivity is not excluded.” The woman went to the hospital to ask for an explanation and was told there that the test had never been done.

The two’s apartment was searched, evidence of Covid and a large amount of medical equipment were found. In Civitavecchia dozens of people were heard who allegedly took the false test, but investigators suspect their number may be higher.
