MIA spokeswoman, Police Chief Commissioner Monica Dajbog, presented the balance of Christmas days.

“Allow me to present you the results of the latest actions carried out by the structures of the Ministry of the Interior to protect the safety and health of Romanians by limiting the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas, the police intervened in more than 6,200 events, but during the two days there were no more serious situations in terms of public order.

Following investigative activities, the police captured 237 perpetrators and 11 perpetrators in cases with unknown perpetrators. At the same time, 25 people were tracked, of which 24 nationally and one internationally.

Almost 13,000 penalties were applied for a total amount of more than 4 million lei and assets worth about 200 thousand lei were confiscated.

In the last two days, 522 driving licenses and 142 registration certificates were seized.

I would like to point out that the number of serious traffic accidents recorded during the mini-vacation period is decreasing compared to previous years. Thus, the number of serious accidents decreased with respect to 2018 by 44% and with respect to 2019 by 53%.

As for violent crimes, and here we refer to murder, attempted murder or robbery, the downward trend of recent years continues. Compared to 2018, there is a decrease of 38% and compared to 2019 by 33%.

Another important mission of the MIA staff, on Christmas Day, was to ensure the protection of the transport of vaccine doses from entering the country through the Nădlac border crossing to the Cantacuzino Institute. The MIA structures will also ensure the protection of future vaccine dose shipments.

In the last 24 hours, at the national level, to verify the way in which sanitary protection measures were observed, almost 13,800 policemen, gendarmes, border guards, ISU cadres, local police, representatives of ANSVSA, of the National Authority for Consumer Protection, as well as employees of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Transportation and local public authorities.

1,200 specific actions were carried out, during which approximately 3,000 economic operators were verified, 136 passenger transport operators, 7,800 objectives of interest, of which 2,300 food units. In addition, 74,400 people were checked.

After the control actions in the last 24 hours, more than 3,800 sanctions were applied for an amount of almost 800,000 lei.

Approximately 2,800 penalties were applied for not wearing a protective mask, 49 for breaching physical distance and 40 for violating the quarantine or isolation measure.

A further 826 sanctions were imposed for non-compliance with restrictions on the free movement of persons.

In addition, investigations were launched against a person yesterday to thwart the fight against disease.

On the TEL VERDE telephone line, where situations of non-compliance with health protection measures can be notified, 5 calls were received, being directed to verifications at the level of territorial structures.

Another nine complaints, accompanied by photographic and video images, pointed in particular to irregularities in relation to the use of a protective mask and the maintenance of physical distance at the Bucharest level.

Employees of the Ministry of the Interior and other institutions will continue to focus on areas of high risk for the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including restricted targets.
