The Mayor General of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, stated, during the Digi24 “In Front of You” interview, that the Capital City Council has a total of approximately 35,000 employees and together with the sector administrations there are “of the order of 70,000” employees.

“I did not centralize. But I have some of these data. In the City Council of the Capital there are around 1,100 people, in STB there are 11,000 people, in Termoenergetica there are 3,500 people, these are data obtained today (Friday-n.red.) In the other municipal companies there are about 3,500 people and in the decentralized institutions, including the theaters, that is, the institutions subordinate to the City Council are again several thousand people. I am somewhere in the 35,000. I will give you the exact data. I am probably one of Romania’s biggest employers, ”said the mayor.

He stated that in PMB and the sector councils “there are about 70,000 employees.”

“It is a kind of parity between the Capital City Council and the district councils, together, but among these people is STB, which is a public service, where you have to have several thousand conductors, there are 15 theaters where there are 5,000, several thousand of social workers. When we do the audit, we will see what is extra in this scheme “, Nicușor Dan also explained.

He said that the salary budget of the City Council plus subordinate institutions is 60 million lei per month, which means 700 million lei per year, which represents 17-18% of PMB’s annual budget.

When asked how many staff could work in the Capital City Council and its subordinate companies, Nicușor Dan replied: “We have the City Council, the administration and the companies. Subordinate companies, except STB and Termoenergetica, are legal tricks to get out of the auction process and most of them will be closed. I cannot give you the percentage now, but, as I promised, we will do a financial and human resources audit, the management in each institution and we will make the decision.

He specified that the difference with respect to the cases of the Bihor and Caraş Severin administrations that reduced their workforce to redirect the budget to other investments, “comes from the fact that we currently have these three major emergencies in Bucharest, which I have to start (coronavirus , term and economic situation) ”.
