Traffic came to a standstill in London on Wednesday night after residents of England’s capital rushed out of the city as new restrictions entered, according to Mirror.
Britain’s parliament overwhelmingly approved Britain’s entry into the second “lockdown” on Wednesday night to control the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting at 00:00 GMT on Thursday, all non-essential shops, bars and restaurants in England will be closed until December 2, when the new lock automatically expires.
Scenes similar to those in Paris took place on Wednesday night in London, where queues formed on the roads, which if joined, would extend for a distance of almost 2,000 km. The motorway belt of the English capital has been completely blocked, writes the cited source.
Traffic jams have occurred in 16 other major cities in England.
Traffic was also hampered by people leaving to stock up, as many fear the restrictions will be extended after December 2.
Under the new measures, schools, colleges and universities will remain open and telework will be encouraged.
People will be able to leave their homes for a good reason, including medical visits, going to work, or buying food. Likewise, physical activities are allowed in open spaces, as well as meetings with family or friends as long as the rules of physical distance are observed.
The other components of the UK (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) have their own policies and in recent weeks have introduced stricter restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
