“Our CDC data suggests that vaccinated people do not carry the virus, they do not get sick, and that it is not only found in clinical trials, but also in real world data,” Walensky said in an interview with MSNBC.
Walensky was referring to a new CDC study involving nearly 4,000 people, frontline workers, some vaccinated and some not, who underwent weekly tests for COVID-19 infections between December 2020 and March 2021. .

Among the fully vaccinated people who participated in the study, only three COVID-19 infections were detected, while 161 unvaccinated people were infected with COVID-19.
In other words, two weeks after vaccination with both doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, almost all detectable infections were reduced to zero, whether they were asymptomatic or not.
The CDC concluded, based on these results, that the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are approximately 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 infections, even asymptomatic ones.
This is a sign that vaccinated people are protecting those around them from contact with the coronavirus.
But more data is needed to say that the vaccine protects with certainty, which is why researchers are currently recruiting thousands of students to learn more about the likelihood of asymptomatic spread of the virus among vaccinated people.
