Patients with COVID-19 from two large hospitals in the Capital, the Matei Balş Institute and the Colentina Hospital, have been cold for several hours, after these two COVID units were disconnected from the thermal supply network due to a breakdown.

UPDATE 22:25 A statement from the thermal agent supplier company in the Capital, Termoenergetica, shows that estimated the damage that caused the heat failure is resolved during tonight, after it was initially presented as the time to resume the supply of the heating agent on Friday night, at 10:00 p.m.

The company claims that this is “primary” damage that occurred in Șoseaua Ștefan cel Mare.

Balş’s patients received heaps and extra blankets, but they don’t solve the situation. Medical personnel are also affected, as they cannot wash after leaving the red zone. Dr Adrian Marinescu explained to Digi24 that it is difficult and risky to bring electrical heating sources to patients who have oxygen sources at their side.

In Colentina, air conditioners are used for heating and some boilers have been put into operation for medical personnel. Victor Cauni, Colentina’s medical director, told Digi24 that there were other such damages, but that they were not going to last as long. The hope is that things will return to normal in the morning. He specified that the hospital was informed about the cessation of the thermal agent on Friday morning, with the promise that it will be resolved before midnight.

In turn, the Matei Balș Institute spokesman says that on Thursday it was announced that the shutdown of the thermal agent will take place on Friday between 9:00 and 22:00.

Present at Digi24 at the time of releasing this news, the head of the Department of Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, said that he has no details about what is happening, but acknowledged that it is not a normal situation and should be resolved as soon as possible.

He noted that their own power plants would be the best solution for hospitals, some hospital units already have it, others it is not clear that much remains to be done at the hospital infrastructure level.
