The Ministry of European Funds approved, at the end of last week, the request for financing related to the construction of the metro station on Berceni Road, which will connect the southern part of Bucharest with the north and center of the Capital.

Now, regarding the investments made in the last 4 years, this area has every chance of becoming the new business pole of the Capital and of generating thousands of well-paid jobs.

The new metro station will be built between Berceni station, the current end of the line of the second metro line and the ring road. With an area of 15,100 square meters, the station will be above ground, that is, a building with a basement, a ground floor and two floors.

The length of the new route, which will have a double lane (two separate lines, compared to only one, as it is currently) will be 1.6 kilometers, as well as six pedestrian access areas, two of which will be located on the opposite side. from the Berceni road, the connection being ensured through an underground pedestrian passage.

Also, from the two exits, there will be a direct connection with the park & ride type parking, which will be available nearby. In addition, being an above ground station, the project also includes a road de-icing facility, which would allow safe operation in winter. The works have an execution period of 22 months from the order of their commencement.

“With the 50 million euros contributed to the sector, the southern area becomes a nodal point to set up the business hub that we so badly need. Directly or indirectly, the European funds that we have attracted will bring new, well-paying jobs, making a better life for people, starting with the employees of the Romanian companies who will actually work in the metro station and ending with all those who will. . use to get to work faster or wherever needed.

Last but not least, the metro station means reducing road traffic. The cars will be left in the parking lots we have already built around the metro stations, so the traffic values will be reduced substantially, which clearly leads to less pollution and cleaner air ” said Daniel Băluţă, mayor of Sector 4.

According to statistics, metro line 2 represents 25% of the total Metrorex lines and supports 50% of the traffic flow of the entire underground transport network of the Capital on a daily basis.
