Prime Minister Ludovic Orban summoned the Government, at 4:00 p.m., Ministers Nelu Tătaru and Marcel Vela, as well as Raed Arafat, to discuss the new measures to be taken to manage the enormous rate of infections due to the new coronavirus. CNSU will have a meeting at 5 pm to adopt the new rules that will later be adopted by GD at tomorrow’s governance meeting.

Government sources told Digi24.ro that at the level of the Government and health experts, the proposal to CNSU to introduce the obligation to wear a mask in all open spaces where the infection rate will be at least 3,000 to 1,000. At this time, decisions are being made at the county level in this regard, several regions of the country have already announced that they have introduced the use of a mask as an obligation in all open spaces.

In Bucharest, local authorities and the Municipal Committee for Emergency Situations have been reluctant to force citizens to wear masks, preferring instead to make decisions to close businesses and the entertainment industry.

The prime minister will discuss with the ministers summoned today to the meeting also about the ministerial order that will order that the asymptomatic no longer go to hospitals, being cared for at home, in the context in which Covid hospitals are already overcrowded .

The closure of the schools was taken into account as a scenario by the Bucharest authorities, but no decision was made, after the INSP rectified, in less, the contagion rate announced for the Capital – 3.1 per thousand. After the intervention of the Government, which had also announced, another contagion rate – 2.69 per thousand – the INSP returned with a rate of 2.65 per thousand.

The decision to keep children at home is politically delicate, since we are already in the pre-election campaign and the issue can be speculated by political actors. However, Klaus Iohannis has repeatedly stated that he does not agree with the closure of schools and the online school, as children need education in the most normal way possible.

It is just as difficult for politicians to make a strong decision about masks, although other countries have managed to keep the evolution of infections under control by forcing citizens to wear them in all open spaces.
