Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said the elections in Sector 5, won by Cristian Popescu Piedone, are a surprise, writes Mediafax. “I don’t know how long Mr. Popescu can be mayor. He has a sentence handed down by the court of first instance,” Orban recalled.

Prime Minister Orban declared on Sunday night, on a România TV program, that he does not understand why the people of Sector 5 voted with Cristian Popescu Piedone.

“It just came to our knowledge then. I can’t understand why the inhabitants of Sector 5 voted with Cristian Popescu Piedone. I really can’t understand, but that’s it, the people have elected, I don’t know how long Mr. Popescu will be mayor. He has a sentence handed down by the court of first instance, ”Orban declared.

He said that many people from Sector 5 did not go to the polls.

“It is the result of the elections made by the majorities who came to vote in sector 5. These are not the real majorities, only that the people are, thank God, more than half, the normal people who live in the sector. 5 did not go to the polls, they did not want to appoint a mayor with a modern vision of the development of the sector, which would actually include sector 5 in Bucharest. They went after some candidacies that did not contribute anything. They just left the sector in continuous degradation ”, Orban also declared.

In last Sunday’s elections, Cristian Popescu Piedone (PPU-SL) obtained the highest number of votes in Sector 5.
