The economic effects of the quarantine period are increasingly visible. India’s largest automaker and one of the world’s largest, Maruti Suzuki, has not produced or sold a car since April.

India was in strict quarantine and all factories were closed. This is a huge decrease from last year, when Maruti Suzulki sold 143,245 vehicles in April 2019. Some of the cars produced by Maruti are exported, and 650 cars managed to be shipped until ports and maritime operations were AND stopped. .

The quarantine in India will be lifted next week, but with significant restrictions in the coming period, especially in relation to travel between regions. Automakers are the country’s largest employers, and their businesses could grind to a halt this year.
