Raed Arafat spoke with Digi24 about the position of Secretary General of the Government who stated on Tuesday that “all ATI beds are occupied.” The head of DSU says that this is not necessarily the case, because the situation differs from one area to another. “All beds are occupied right now, maybe sometime in some areas, yes, but I wouldn’t say that on a national level,” says Raed Arafat.
Raed Arafat: “We had about 300 free fans today. 319, to be more precise. Now the problem with these ventilators … some may be in pediatrics or obstetrics, but some seem to have staffing issues. In some situations, we have staff that got sick. and he’s isolated at home, we have anesthetists who got sick and now we’re working to see where we can send staff.
Today, only those who need invasive or possibly non-invasive ventilation should enter ATI.
Now we buy additional equipment, which is not ordinary ventilators, they are non-invasive ventilation devices, to supplement these ventilation possibilities by several thousand, so that we can increase the capacity of non-invasive ventilation, but also invasive ventilation.
So if the patient only needs oxygen, only monitoring, or solutions that do not require ventilation, these patients should not be in the ATI, they should be next to the ATI, in oxygen beds. And then ATI beds should be kept only for patients who need intensive care and who of course need ventilation.
All beds are taken right now, maybe sometime in some areas, yes, but I wouldn’t say that nationally. Perhaps in Bucharest, at some point we will reach fully occupied beds, perhaps right now. This does not mean that you cannot find intensive care facilities in another part of the country. It depends on the distance and it depends on the dynamics. There are regions that announce that they have reached the occupation of all beds, and then we look in other areas where we still have free beds ”.

The Secretary General of the Government affirmed this Tuesday, in a post on Facebook in which he defended the restrictions imposed at the national level, that “all ATI beds are occupied.” He returned to the message after about two hours and changed only that passage: “ATI beds are getting faster.”
