UEFA clears up controversy: Norwegians are not at risk of being excluded from the Nations League

UEFA explained on Saturday night that the match was canceled due to an unforeseen situation, in a pandemic of COVID-19. In this case it is not an exclusion of Norway since League of Nations, although this variant has been discussed.

The Regulations of the 2020-2021 edition, in article 26 (3) of the League of Nations, clarify the following situations: “Refusal to play or similar cases: if a team is disqualified, the results of all matches will be declared void.“It is just that, being the crisis generated by coronavirus, this article will not apply.

If the match cannot be rescheduled, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will make a decision. The federation that is responsible for not playing the game or not being able to play it until the end of the game will be declared the loser at a lump sum by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

If it is concluded that both teams are responsible or neither of them is responsible for the non-dispute of the game or the impossibility of playing it until its end, it cannot be declared lost. If the match cannot be declared lost, the outcome of the match will be decided by lottery (1-0, 0-1 or 0-0) by the UEFA administration. It is also reflected in the regulations approved by the UEFA Executive Committee.

How does the ranking look if Romania beats Norway at the “green table”?

Probably, Norway will lose the match 0-3. For the Nordics, the game would go on with Austria, from November 18, also outside. Although Norwegians would like to travel, this is unlikely to happen. They must be quarantined in Oslo for ten days, according to local laws.

If Romania wins 3-0, on the “green table”, it would reach seven points in Group 1, in League B of the Nations League. Norway would keep nine.

If the Nordics lost in the same way in Austria, Franco Foda’s team would win the group and be promoted to League A.

How the ranking will be, with a victory for Romania on the “green table” against Norway:

  • Austria 9 points (two games left)
  • Norway 9 points (one game left)
  • Romania 7 points (one game left)
  • North Ireland 1 point (two games left)
