After a meeting with the Norwegian Health Directorate on Saturday morning, the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) postponed the national team’s trip to Bucharest, where they are scheduled to play Romania on Sunday night. At the hearing, the NFF was informed that the Norwegian Health Directorate found that leaving Norway violated the quarantine provisions of the Covid-19 regulations.
The national team has been in quarantine in an Oslo hotel since Galatasaray player Omar Elabdellaoui was found infected on Friday. According to Norwegian regulations, the quarantine will last ten days. However, in the European Football Association (UEFA) regulations, there are no obstacles for the Norwegian team to travel to both matches, despite a proven infection from Elabdellaoui.
Alf-Inge Haaland: “E jenant!”
Alf-Inge Haaland, a former Norwegian international and Erling Haaland’s father, told Nordic publication Nettavisen that the Norwegian team should be able to go to Bucharest for the match with Mirel Rădoi’s students: “It is a great shame for the Norwegian team. I think the situation was poorly managed by the medical authorities, they put the Federation in an impossible situation. It is shameful.
Norwegian footballers can leave home in other countries, but they are not allowed to go to Romania, with a charter flight, it is shameful. This situation can lead to the loss of a match and decrease the chances of qualifying for the World Cup. It is exaggerated, UEFA has a protocol that it follows, there have also been infected players in other countries ”.
