Mircea Covătaru was born on February 2, 1946 in Boroaia, Suceava County.
The beginnings of the wrestling section of the Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț Sports Club are linked to the name of Mircea Covătaru. In 1977, he was the department’s first coach to produce valuable athletes over time.
Mircea Covătaru started the fights in Rădăuți in 1963, and a year later he became a national champion in youth. He also fought for Farul Constanța and Dinamo Bucharest, and for seven years he was part of Romania’s senior team. He also began his coaching career in Rădăuți, in 1972, and since 1977 he “legitimized” himself at CS Ceahlăul. There he remained until 1991, when he coordinated the activity of a section that produced athletes who also qualified on the podiums in important international competitions.
He was also a coach at CS Ceahlăul during 2016-2019, but is happy to have worked as a coach for the national teams from 1980-1988.
