The president of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, declared that the UDMR wants to come to power in Romania, after the elections, but not without conditions and not with everyone. Hungarians will agree to be part of a government, along with the PNL, only if they will receive ministerial portfolios for party politicians, and not just second-tier positions of secretaries of state.
“It is not a shame that a politician wants to govern. Governance is one of the inseparable aspects of politics and is necessary for the realization of the program proposed by a party. And we want to be in a situation where we are unavoidable in Parliament and we are trying to carry out our program as a factor of government. To what extent this will be possible after December 6, I don’t know, ”Kelemen Hunor told the Hungarian radio station InfoRádió, as quoted by RADOR.
According to him, the party he leads will agree to be part of a liberal government only if it gains more benefits for the Hungarian community in Romania and if this leads to the improvement of Romanian-Hungarian political relations.
“If there is a government program and a parliamentary majority in which we will obtain an improvement in the representation of the interests of the Hungarian community in Romania, including in the field of Romanian-Hungarian relations and between the two countries, then we will not refuse to participate in government. ” Said Hunor Kelemen.
Romania the UDMR dreams of
The UDMR was in power for the last time, for a few months, in 2014, so according to the Hungarian leader, assuming participation in the government is not questioned at any price and not with everyone.
“We want a Romania where everyone feels safe,” said Hunor Kelemen, noting that this security consists of two parts:
“One refers to the security of preserving and consolidating identity, and the objective is that it is not questioned by anyone, it is respected by all the institutions of the country, but especially by the majority population. The second is the field of existence, namely the protection and creation of new jobs, as well as the guarantee of the development of the economy. Today, due to the epidemic with the new coronavirus, everyone considers these to be the most important ”- said the president of the UDMR.
As a result, Kelemen Hunor stressed that he wants all Hungarians to feel at home in Romania, without putting their business or family in danger in any way.
“We want a Romania where Transylvanian Hungarians feel at home and can plan their future for their family and business, and are not threatened by any danger,” added Kelemen Hunor.
