The mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan, claims that Gabriela Firea, the former mayor, is responsible for the cold in the apartments. Nicușor admits that the situation will not be resolved too soon. “It will take time to correct all the mistakes that have been made in the last 30 years,” concluded Nicușor Dan.
“We have 6 weeks since we tried to keep a dusty city afloat and lay the foundations for future development. I don’t want to waste time on controversies and apologize for the heavy legacy. But the audacity, impudence and lies of the former mayor general outweigh all the limits and I can’t help but answer.
To be very clear, Gabriela Firea is the source of the cold in your apartments. On what we can improve, after the disaster caused by him, we can be assessed punctually and on time by the people of Bucharest. We did not promise miracles, but honest and efficient administration.
This is what Gabriela Firea has not done in 4 years:
1. Did practically nothing to modernize Bucharest’s district heating network.
2. It failed to absorb 300 million euros in European money, although it has had it at its disposal since 2016
3. This summer Gabriela Firea postponed, for electoral interest, the absolutely vital repair works that would have prevented the current damage.
4. As a result, the district heating network has literally become a strainer that wastes the bucharest’s money, and hot water losses are more than three times higher in 2020 than in 2016.
5. Network losses make it work at the fault limit. That is why the CET Sud fell last Friday, affecting the entire eastern part of the capital for a week
6. Failed to pay the grant and led Elcen into insolvency. As a result, Elcen was unable to access European money and was unable to modernize
7. At the same time, all PSD’s clientele, active in the management of companies like Termoenergetica, were paid huge salaries for services that were not performed or were of poor quality. Now we take care of the emergencies and misfortunes left by this brave octopus. But we will also take care of them.
This is what I have done, in collaboration with the Government, in 6 weeks since I took office:
1. We signed the contract for 300 million euros of European money for the modernization of the network
2. We have also allocated EUR 200 million through PNRR to modernize the network.
3. We will receive 20 million lei from the Government’s reserve fund to contract, in a private regime, additional intervention teams for the damages that are currently occurring.
4. We offset 300 million lei in debts with Elcen. As a result, Elcen will emerge from insolvency.
5. Elcen will access 370 million euros for the modernization of its own plants (money that could not be accessed during the insolvency of the company). The new technology reduces costs, reduces pollution and, most importantly, enables much faster recovery in the event of a breakdown.
These are the facts. The rest is nothing more than a mischievous and cynical attempt to speculate on Bucharest’s nerves, which, against their will, were forced these days to endure the cold in the houses and the lack of hot water.
I know that there are high expectations of my mandate, I know that the incumbent mayor is responsible for all the disaster of the past administration. I know that time has no patience with those who freeze from the cold in their own home and do not have access to hot water. I assure you that I will continue to do everything humanly possible to solve in the shortest possible time this mockery to which you are subjected for the above causes. It is inadmissible that in a capital of an EU country we have such problems from the Middle Ages. I tell you here that I know what you are going through and that I am here to fix it. It will take time to correct all the mistakes that have been made in the last 30 years and especially in the last four years. In 45 days it is not possible, but with seriousness and perseverance we will correct the evil. This is a promise, ”Nicușor Dan stated on his Facebook page.
