Nicolae Robu lost the local elections for the Timișoara City Council, where he was running for a new term, to USR-PLUS candidate Dominic Fritz.

The mayor of Timisoara was in hand-to-hand combat with Dominic Fritz, a candidate from Germany who recently entered Romanian politics and participated in an electoral race for the first time.

Nicolae Robu acknowledged the defeat, announces the website Tion.ro: “We lost, it is the will of the people of Timișoara, the difference is great. Comparing the number of votes, the difference is surprisingly large, I cannot say in percentages. I thought it was going to be a tight scoreboard and was optimized until the last moment, but the difference is big, which means that the expectations of the people of Timisoara are different. The strong development did not give satisfaction. I can honestly say that if I had to choose whether to lose by a small difference or by a large difference, I would have chosen to lose by a large difference. I have no suffering. It means that I will not give in to what the people of Timisoara want for the next four years. This is life, no regrets! I admit it, I cannot be hypocritical, I would have liked the objectives for which I fought so hard – the new stadium, the Multipurpose Room, the Solvent Passage – were associated with my third term. It was not so. I am happy with what I have accomplished up to my age, both in my academic career and in my career as mayor.
