Sonia Vlaicovici, one of Banat’s longest-running and most beloved folk music soloists, has passed away.

Countless were the folk music bands and orchestras with which he sang: the “Brâuleţul” folk orchestra from Constanţa, conducted by Dan Moisescu; Zalău Folk Orchestra, conductor George Miţin Varieşescu; The popular orchestra “Ciocârlia” from Bucharest, conducted by Constantin Arvinte; in 1965, the popular orchestra “Doina Banatului” of Caransebeş, conductor Nicolae Perescu, when he was working here; The “Banatul” Folk Orchestra of Timişoara, conductor Gelu Stan.
Sonia Vlaicovici participated in numerous competitions, where she was awarded the first prize on each occasion. The activity of the popular music interpreter materialized through the recording of two small discs, accompanied by the folkloric orchestra “Doina Banatului” from Caransebes, conducted by Nicolae Perescu, and a great disc, made with the Orquesta Popular Radio Bucharest, under the address of Paraschiv Oprea. . On television, her appearances were rarer before 1989, and she was often viewed as an undesirable person, like a priest’s wife, and removed from the stage. We emphasize that the first recordings of some folk songs in her repertoire were made by Timişoara Radio Studio, specialized editor – Lucia Boleanţu, being Sonia Vlaicovici at that time the soloist of the Caransebeş “Doina Banatului” Orchestra.
In 1966 she participated with the popular Caransebeş “Doina Banatului” Orchestra in a concert held in Brasov, where the soloist showed her talent in the field of romance. His artistic activity was increasingly profiled towards this genre, also recording on Radio Timişoara, also editor Lucia Boleanţu, some beloved romances, accompanied by the popular “Banatul” Orchestra of Timişoara, orchestra conductor Professor Gelu Stan.
Sonia Vlaicovici transmitted this love for song to her two children, the boy, an accordion virtuoso, and the girl, a good vocal soloist.
