The number of children with COVID-19 is increasing, warns the Ministry of Health. In the context of the proliferation of coronavirus cases in all age groups, athe authorities want to increase the number of ATI beds to 1,600, since there are now 1,300 and 1,056 are already occupied.
The ministry is also announcing changes to the treatment protocol for stay-at-home patients with mild forms of the disease. They must be closely monitored by family doctors, who will decide on their treatment and direct them to the hospital if their condition worsens.
Until now, only hospitalized patients with mild forms received antivirals, not those who stayed at home.
The move was decided to prevent an even greater increase in the number of severe COVID cases, since, although the number of intensive care beds can be increased, there are not enough medical personnel for them.
The authorities call on the public to comply with health measures and warn that the type of patients has changed.
If at the beginning of the pandemic the majority of patients were elderly, recently it has been found that more and more children and adolescents are suffering from COVID-19.
