Monica-Emanuela Althamer, a patient navigator for the Magic Association, the NGO founded by Melania Medeleanu and Vlad Voiculescu, was appointed secretary of state at the Health Ministry on Thursday. The decision to appoint Monica Althamer, signed by Prime Minister Florin Cîțu, was published Thursday night in the Official Gazette. Monica Althamer replaces Dr. Horațiu Moldovan, who came to the ministry together with former Minister Víctor Costache, as Secretary of State.


Patient navigators, usually NGO representatives, support and guide patients with serious illnesses to manage them in the health system, to reach the doctor, do medical tests and research, etc.

Monica Althamer is the second Secretary of State to join Vlad Voiculescu’s team at the Ministry of Health, after Andreea Moldovan, epidemiologist and GP of infectious diseases, medical director of the COVID hospital in Brașov.

Monica Althamer was secretary of state in the Ministry of Health and in the first term of Vlad Voiculescu and then she dealt with the relationship with patients.

Monica Althamer is 42 years old, has a BA in Theology and English Language and Literature from the West University of Timișoara and was a teacher at Grigore Moisil High School in Timișoara.

Since 2011 he has been a counselor for patients diagnosed with cancer, first at the Give Life Association, then at the Magic Association.
