Moderna revealed how long immunity lasts after her anti-Covid vaccine

The American pharmaceutical company Moderna claims that the COVID-19 vaccine has the potential to ensure long-lasting immunity. Clinical tests show that after the first dose, antibodies develop that last for three months, and after the second dose of the vaccine, the body remains immune for another two months.

Under these conditions, Moderna expects to have 20 million doses of vaccine ready for distribution this year in the US, reports EFE, quoted by Agerpres.

The company said that according to studies conducted by the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, participants in the first phase of clinical trials with this vaccine developed “high levels of neutralizing antibodies” over a period of three months after after the first dose and two months after the second dose.

Clinical studies show that Moderna’s vaccine would provide “long-lasting immunity”

The study also showed that the vaccine has “the potential to provide long-lasting immunity” against the new coronavirus, without causing significant side effects two months after administration.

“These preliminary data from Phase 1 suggest that mRNA-1273, our candidate vaccine for COVID-19, can generate durable neutralizing antibodies in all age groups, including mature and elderly adults,” Moderna said in a statement.

The pharmaceutical company also announced that it expects to have 20 million doses of this vaccine available for the United States by the end of this year and another 100 to 125 million doses, which will be available globally by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

Of these, between 85 and 100 million will be distributed in the United States and between 15 and 25 million will be distributed in the rest of the world.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could grant emergency clearance to Pfizer and Moderna in the middle of this month, so the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign may begin in late December.

US authorities hope to expand the vaccine distribution and availability network in June next year to begin a general immunization campaign.
