The Economy Minister, Virgil Popescu, explained to Digi24 that the safety of tourists is important to restart the tourism sector. According to the dignitary, tourists will leave home if they feel safe. Otherwise, you are open in vain, said Virgil Popescu.
The Minister specified that the entire tourism industry in Romania was affected in a proportion of 98% to 99%.
He said that although the measures will be relaxed after May 15, it will probably not be a problem for tourism to start thereafter.
Virgil Popescu gave a timely response to a coastal tour operator who had expressed his hope that the business would begin no later than July 1.
“The tourism industry is very sensitive. Hoteliers and the owner it refers to, to function, must have tourists. The measures are likely to relax as of May 15.” Regardless of whether the government will sooner or later release traffic, the tourist will leave their home and go to benefit from the tourist services only if they feel safe. Just like in the stock market, when you speculate that something might happen, stocks fall. And in tourism, until we feel confident that going to a hotel, bar, restaurant, nothing related to health will happen to us, this will not be relaunched.
We want to develop a set of rules so that people feel safe when they go to a hotel.
The hotels are officially open, but they are open in vain, “said Virgil Popescu.
The minister said that on May 15, some of the measures will be relaxed and after two weeks a first evaluation will be carried out to see if the measures taken have had a positive effect in terms of health.
“It is essential to see what happens between May 15 and June 1.
To travel abroad, all states must open their borders. Since we see that certain states allow opening, we can say that something will also move there.
We all want to travel to Europe in August, but to see how the situation evolves in each state.
The tourist must feel safe. Regardless of whether offers appear and how much we would help tourism, if the tourist does not feel safe, he will not go, “concluded the Minister of Economy.
