The Los Olivos, California property has been the home of pop star Michael Jackson since 1987, when he was at the height of his fame until his death in June 2009.
In the 1990s, Santa Barbara prosecutors searched the 2,698-acre farm and described it as a fantasy world that Jackson built to entice children to abuse them. Jackson was acquitted in this case.
After Michael Jackson’s death, the farm was initially listed for $ 100 million, but there were no buyers. Withdrawn from the market, Neverland returned to offerings this year with the price reduced to less than a third.
According to the Wall Street Journal, it was eventually acquired by Ron Burkle, a partner of the late pop star and co-founder of the investment firm Yucaipa Companies. However, the investor gave 9 million less than the market price: 22 million dollars.
A Los Angeles real estate agent, Ian Reed, told The Guardian that the transaction could be considered a “robbery” because the price was extremely low, even given the home’s “creepy past” and the fact that the farm , built in 1982, has dated interiors.
The buyer, billionaire Ron Burkle, helped Michael Jackson with some business problems a few years before his death, when the pop star began to suffer financial problems.

Burkle also owns other famous homes in the area, including the Ennis House in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and a John Lautner House in Palm Springs, designed and built for Bob and Dolores Hope.
According to the presentation, Sycamore Valley Ranch, as it was renamed Neverland after the pop star’s death, consists of a 12,000-square-foot French-style mansion and “is a haven among gardens and a 4-acre lake, incredible views pastorals to the south and majestic views of the mountain to the north ”.
The property includes a large covered barbecue area, has a swimming pool, a billiards playground and a tennis court.
Also on the property are three separate guest houses, a 5,500 square meter cinema with stage, barns, animal shelters and a storage room.
At one point, Jackson installed a huge floral clock on the property’s gates, which read “Neverland,” a name inspired by the Peter Pan story, written by JM Barrie.
