Ionut Stroe setOn Wednesday, at a press conference, the rapid COVID-19 tests were certified in Romania, the results of which can be communicated in a few minutes. Thus, they can be used by Romanian athletes in internal competitions in the coming days. The medical director of the hospital for infectious diseases in Brașov, Andreea Moldovan, spoke about the relevance of these new tests.
“Certainly the new rapid tests are better than antibody tests, which have been overused without being relevant. It is a step forward, only that the tests that are currently available in Romania do not have the desired specificity to be 100% reliable.
Therefore, the methodology established last week stipulates the use of these tests in emergency units only for faster triage of patients, and a test, whether negative or positive, will be validated by PCR. PCR is also not great in terms of precision, but for now it remains the standard for diagnosis.
These new tests will definitely help us move faster and test more people. They are relevant, but as long as they are also of quality. What has been brought to the country so far does not have the desired level of specificity, there is room for improvement. We need a lot more speed, they will be one step ahead“Said Dr. Andreea Moldovan, on the Liga Digi Sport program.
Minister Stroe announced the possibility of using rapid tests in Romanian sports
“I have good news. We are working to change the order that regulates the testing of athletes in Romania. In Romania, those cheap and rapid tests that work in the European Union have recently been certified.
And Romanian athletes will be able to use these much cheaper events for our national competitions. I know that its price is around 5 euros.
Right now, we have modified and sent to the Ministry of Health the new order that practically allows athletes to use these cheap and efficient tests. We also unlocked the competitions for children and young people, because that was the big problem, they couldn’t afford the PCR tests.
Now we can unlock the lower leagues. So it’s a matter of a day or two … I’ll publicly announce when this amended order will come out from the Ministry of Health.Stroe said.
