Mayor General Nicușor Dan declared, on Monday, after a meeting with Prime Minister Florin Cîțu and the mayors of sectors, that they are trying, “as far as possible”, to avoid the application of a “Bucharest quarantine” measure.
Dan also specified that, in his opinion, the population still has to endure about two more months of restrictions due to Covid-19, because large quantities of vaccines will arrive in Romania in April.
“We are practically in the same situation since November, December. The same measures since then, except for the opening of the school, are in force at this time. Of course, it is also a fatigue of the population after a year of restrictions. It’s about being responsible and having a good time. So, practically, we have two more months left, because there are a lot of vaccines that will arrive in Romania in April and May. So we have to endure this part of Monday, March and April, until several vaccines arrive. “said the mayor of the Capital.
Regarding the closure of schools, the mayor of the capital said that everything depends on the normative acts that will be issued by the national authorities, not the local ones.
“Everything that means the closure of schools, the closure of economic activities, such as shopping centers, are mandatory measures that follow some normative acts, which are issued by the national authorities. As local authorities, we can only comply. What I can tell you is that in this discussion between the Prime Minister and the mayors of Bucharest, we tried to find those effective measures that would avoid the quarantine of Bucharest. ” – Nicusor Dan also said.
Prime Minister Florin Cîțu is unhappy with the situation of Covid-19 cases in Bucharest
Prime Minister Florin Cîţu was dissatisfied, on Monday, with the increasingly serious situation of new cases of illness with Covid-19 in Bucharest, so he organized a meeting at 1:00 p.m. with the mayor general and those of the sectors .
Before this discussion, Cîțu said that he is “very upset”, because there is “a minority that does not respect the current rules.”
“I saw, like you, the images of what happened last weekend in the clubs, and what happens in the mountain resorts, and I want to say that it makes me very sad to see that there is a minority of our fellow citizens who still do not wants to follow current regulations Of course, the implications are for the majority of the population.“- said the Prime Minister of Romania.
He warned that the authorities will be intransigent in the next period with those who do not respect the law, including parliamentarians.
“Where the law is not respected, I will be uncompromising. No one is above the law. Unfortunately, there are parliamentarians who instigate, urge non-compliance with the law. (…) I have no problem with protests, (…) but to do it according to the law, to wear a mask. (…) I asked Mr. Bode for a situation about what happened over the weekend. No one is above the law.“, stressed the prime minister.
When asked if there is an issue of quarantining the capital, Cîţu stated:
“Personally, we wanted to keep the economy open and we found solutions. I want to find solutions so that we do not end up in quarantine. We made the decision after having a meeting with the mayor general, the district mayors. That is why I am waiting for solutions.” – Said the head of Government.
