With the adoption of the decisions of the UEFA Executive Committee on 24 September 2020, the structure, format, calendar and commercial concept of the three European Cups, cycle 2021-2024, were also finalized.
While the UEFA Champions League (UCL) remained unchanged, major changes were made to the UEFA Europa League (UEL), while the announced establishment of the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) was also made official.

The 2021-2024 cycle assumes that League 1 will send the champion in the Champions League preliminaries (in the first round) and 3 teams, the second and third place occupants, as well as the winner of the Romanian Cup, in the Conference League (in the second round).
Therefore, the Europa League is banned in League 1, at least until 2024, due to Romania’s low coefficient. The exception will be the League 1 champion, who, if eliminated from the Champions League, slipped into the Europa League. Otherwise, the others will enter the tough competition of the European Cups.
