The head of state’s statements come on the day when the number of infections registered in 24 hours is close to 5,000.

• We went straight into the elections on December 6. I want it to be clear to everyone because I have noticed that some politicians propagate the idea that someone cares at all costs to organize the elections despite the epidemiological situation and that they can be postponed. Nothing more false.

• Parliamentary elections are essential not as an objective in themselves, but because they represent the only valid democratic option that will allow us to have a new Legislative representative and legitimized by the votes of the citizens.

Parliamentary elections should not be postponed so that a party feels better prepared or more likely in a few months.

• The current majority of the PSD is illegitimate, which has not reflected the real will of the Romanians for a long time. What has this toxic and unrepresentative majority done since March? Did you put your shoulder to solve this crisis? No, on the contrary.

• It delayed and even blocked a series of measures to combat the pandemic and adopted populist laws, which could lead Romania to the worst crisis.

• Look no further than yesterday, when the famous author of Ordinance 13, Florin Iordache, was appointed president of the Legislative Council.

PSD, despite desperate attempts to beautify its image, is still the same toxic party.

• Everything for their own, nothing for the citizens. PSD’s challenge to citizens cannot continue.

• The current epidemiological situation is worrying and the pandemic, I fear, will not end next year either, as those who are demanding the postponement of the elections falsely claim.

• One thing is certain: the mandate of the parliamentarians ends on December 20. After this date, if there are no elections, parliamentarians can only vote simple laws, not organic laws.

That would be catastrophic for Romania if we did not have a functional Parliament in this crisis.

• That is why we must do everything possible so that Romania is not left without a Legislature with full powers.

• The voting process does not involve major problems, but the previous campaign did involve a lot of caution and the need to strictly follow all the rules. Regulations, designed precisely to significantly limit the risk of contamination, have already been established.

• I recommend that candidates focus on an online and media campaign, rather than a door-to-door campaign.

On the possibility of quarantining the Capital or other counties:

• This proposal must come mainly from experts, from specialists. I have not heard any proposals directed at the capital or entire counties.

• I don’t want to quarantine Bucharest.

On the scandal between PNL and USR related to the appointment of Iordache to the Legislative Council:

I think this election has made the world so angry that they are trying to find the culprits, rather than solutions.

• It would be strange if they fought, because in the end the toxic majority of the PSD won here and it was clear to everyone that it cannot continue in this way.

• In my opinion, if there is a constitutional solution, it must be sought and tested.

On the reasons why he was no longer directly involved in managing the pandemic:

• We are still quite decisive, but it is obvious that some authorities, as happened in Bucharest, stuttered. It is clear that the authorities need to be better involved, better organized, anticipate events, explain.

• Things are taken to the level of local authorities because there the decision must be made for each locality. This principle is valuable in democratic societies.

It is true that in our country the authorities still have to learn and we will take care of learning.

On the parliamentary elections:

• I am never indifferent to what happens in the country and in politics, but I maintain that it is important to organize parliamentary elections, obviously in strict compliance with the imposed rules.

Regarding the evaluation of hospitals on the non-notification of nosocomial infections:

• Your colleague asked something specific last week. That’s what I have and I can let you study it. It is a comprehensive material on how nosocomial infections are reported. It seems to me a matter of absolute gravity and I will insist that it be treated as such.

About the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova:

• It is not the task of the Romanian president to make an evaluation of the elections in another country. There are politicians there, there are experts, there are some in the European Parliament, there are many interested in consolidating democracy in Moldova and all must contribute to well-organized and relevant elections.

On the activity of the Minister of Health:
